Shimano SYNCOPATE 4000FG Reel Kit

$729.99

MPOWR FISHING LLC announces a new more powerful open face spinning reel to be available to the public in early 2024. The reel is the Shimano SYNCOPATE 4000FG reel. Our primary product tester, Martin Griffin, from Orrick, Missouri, caught over ONE THOUSAND (1000) Walleyes and Nothern Pike on three separate trips to different lakes in Ontario, Canada with absolutely no issues or problems. His videos can be found on the  MPOWR Fishing Facebook page. In addition, my oldest son, Nathan, fished the new reel with no issues for Walleyes, Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike on Fletcher Lake, Ontario in August 2023. FYI, Nathan is afflicted with Cerebral Palsy and was the stimulus for myself and Jeff Zernov designing and developing the original MPOWR REEL in 2013.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE SHIMANO SYNCOPATE 4000FG BATTERY ASSIST FISHING REEL

The unique feature of the Shimano Syncopate Reel that makes it an ideal reel for one handed anglers is its “QUICK FIRE II“ self-centering bail. The bail trigger aligns in a near top dead center position making it as easy for left handed anglers as for right handed anglers. When the anti-reverse lever is properly set, all one has to do is “roll the bail on one’s leg until the trigger catches in the TDC position. With either hand grasp the line and at the same time the bail trigger, pull up (opening the bail) and cast.

The power button paired with the SYNCOPATE reel is the same that is used on our original MPOWR open face spinning reel and our 2023 Diawa Underspin closed face trigger reel. The power button can be attached to either the right side or left side of the rod with its VELCRO strap. A right hand angler would mount the power button on the LEFT side of the rod thereby keeping the various wires to the left and allowing the right hand an unimpeded path to the QUICKFIRE II” bail trigger. Likewise, a left hand angler would mount the power button on the RIGHT side of the rod.

The speed controller (pulse width modulator) case is attached to the underside of the power button case with VELCRO. Regardless of which side of the rod that the power button case is mounted, the speed controller case can be oriented to the correct direction. If the speed controller is attached, it’s best to have the control knob in the “off” position until one is ready to cast,

The power button case with its Velcro strap will adhere very well to cork and other “soft” areas of a fishing rod. If a user finds it necessary to locate the power button case where he foot of the reel is attached to the rod, it will be necessary to have several wraps of electricians tape or stretch tape to provide “bite” for the power button case and thus preventing rotation of the power button case when pressing the power button. .A roll of electricians tape is included with each reel kit.

The MPOWR Reel and all components can be moved to and used on virtually any spinning rod, including ice fishing rods.

If one does not care to adjust the retrieve speed, the PWM (speed controller) can be completely removed. The power button short power cord can then be directly attached to the six (6) foot power cord that is connected to the Lithium battery.

The Bioenno Lithium Iron Phosphate 3Ah 12v battery should never be fully discharged. No problem to recharge at the end of each fishing day. Overnight recharging is okay but do not leave the charger attached to the battery for extended periods of time after the battery is fully charged. The battery is fully charged when the charging light changes from RED to GREEN. This battery can be run for up tp four days on one charge. Both Martin Griffin and Nate have run their batteries for that length of time on one charge.

The reel motor is quite powerful, but don’t use it to “horse” in a large fish. Use the flex and bend of the rod in a pumping action to land large fish.  Two-handed anglers will lower the fishing rod towards the water as they reel in line. They stop reeling and raise the rod to a vertical (12 o’clock) position and start reeling and lowering the rod at the same time. Think of the motor as an assist to retrieving a fish. The electric assist e-bikes are similar in that pedaling is necessary but resistance is considerably reduced by the electric assist motor.

The retrieve speed of the motor is quite fast. Care should be taken when the lure or bait approaches the rod tip as one prepares to cast or recast. The motor is powerful enough to slam the lure or bait right into the rod tip, resulting in a broken rod tip. This “problem” is reduced if the speed controller has been set to reduce the retrieve speed. One could also reduce the drag when fishing smaller fish.

Martin Griffin uses pieces of electricians tape to secure some wires to the rod and secure connecting jacks. He disconnects the speed controller from the power button case and relocates it further back on the rod. He secures the realigned speed controller to its new position on the rod with electricians tape. For his purpose he prefers the power button in front of the reel, rather than over or slightly behind the reel

If necessary to disconnect power cord from reel someone with two hands may be necessary as the connection is usually VERY tight. Loosen locking  nut, firmly grasp both sides of connection and pull apart. Grasping only one side may break solder connections and render unit inoperable.

Components are not completely waterproof, so try to avoid dropping rod and reel into the water!

Kit includes the following components:

Shimano Syncopate 4000FG Reel

Power/Speed Control Module

6 foot Power Cord

Bioenno 3Ah 12v LiFeP04 Battery

Lithium battery charger

Roll of electricians tape
